Hatton Canyon is a California State Park property that is being developed as a recreation area. It is located in Monterey, California and is under works and set to open in the near future.
Located along Highway 1, the Hatton Canyon was set for development under the control of the CalTrans. The area was supposed to be destroyed to make way for a freeway through the canyon. However, in 2002, Governor Gray Davis impeded the plans and signed the property over to the California State Parks department. This was the start of the planning of developing the site as a new state park.
Some portions of the site are open to the public. It is a popular spot for hiking, and was also supposed to open to bicycle access but some local citizens raised their concerns, so the plans are postponed again.
