The Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park is a historic site and state park in Sacramento, California. It features the historic Leland Stanford House, owned by Leland Stanford, a well known politician, member of the Big Four, and founder of the Stanford University.
Built in 1857 by Shelton C. Fogus, the Leland Stanford House was acquired in June 1861 by Stanford. He was a rising member of the Republican Party then and later became the state?s governor. The house served as the executive office and living quarters during his two years as governor.
Designated as a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park is open to the public for tours today.
