The Mission San Juan Bautista is a historic church and mission in San Juan Bautista, California. It is located right next to the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park, but the two are not affiliated in anyway.

Founded in 1797, the Mission San Juan Bautista is the 15th Spanish era mission in California. It was named after Saint John the Baptist and saw quick growth with the help of the friendly natives. Within just six months, the mission already has an adobe church, monastery, homes, barracks, and granary.

The Mission San Juan Bautista is interesting in many ways. For one, despite being perched right on the edge of the San Andreas Fault line, it managed to survive for 200 years. Today’s structure has also been continuously in use since completion in 1812.
