ueen Califia's Magical Circle Garden is often confused between a playground or a work of art. Most of the works here are either stoned snakes, mazes made up of big tiles, or crystal egg-laying bird. The place is located north of Escondido which is a perfect location to satisfy the fantasies of children or to help in the recovery of kids who have traumas. The garden was open to the public in 2003 after Niki de Saint Phalle finished designing the place. This painter and sculptor died one year before Queen Califia's was made available to the public.

De Phalle's inspiration was based on mythical creatures and according to him, Queen Califia portrays a legendary black Amazon warrior who is believed to led the terrestrial creatures guarding a land of gold and riches. The garden is 120 meter in diameter which is bound by security walls. Outside the vicinity are trees, paintings, and walkway which adds beauty to the garden. The walls are accentuated with snake sculptures with total length of 400 feet around the whole garden.

The centerpiece of the garden is a 13-feet tall rainbow-colored bird creature which seems to guard Queen Califia who is standing in an 11-feet stone sculpture. All other creatures are made up of ceramic mosaics and stones with full paints. The garden serves as a family getaway and a playground for children.
