The largest Egyptian museum in the west coast, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum was established by the AMORC – the Ancient Mystical Order Roasae Crucis – or the Rosicrucian Order. The order, which began in 1915, actually started out with a one-piece collection for its museum, and that was a statue of the lion goddess Sekhmet. When the 1920’s rolled in, the order provided funding for several excavations of the Egypt Exploration Society and, in return, the group donated several of its unearthed artifacts from Akhetaten, a city once ruled by the Pharaoh Akhnaton.

It has come a long way since then, with the Museum now housing more than 4,000 Egyptian artefacts and welcoming over a hundred thousand visitors every year. One if its frequent partners in its research and other programs include the British Museum, the Stanford University Hospital, and the Mummy Road Show of the National Geographic.
