The Salton Sea State Recreation Area is a state park and recreation area in North Shore, California. It is best known for featuring the Salton Sea.
The Salton Sea is actually quite a special body of water. It is one of the largest inland seas and the lowest spots in the planet at -227 below sea level. The sea was recreated through a spring flood in 1905. Out of its 130 miles of shoreline, 14 of it are inside the Salton Sea State Recreation Area. The entire 360 square mile basin is highly popular among boaters and anglers.
Aside from fishing and boating, the Salton Sea State Recreation Area is frequented for picnicking, camping, swimming, hiking, windsurfing, and wildlife viewing.
