At the northeast side of Niland, the white structure of the Salvation Mountain lies before the Chocolate Mountains ahead. Leonard Knight started creating art projects in the vicinity on 1985. His 20 years of background in painting from his previous work gave him the ability to construct various biblical structures on top of the mountain.

On the top of Salvation Mountain is a cross, pathway with biblical passages engraved in it, sculpted flowers, and a big heart. Knight said that he used over 100,000 gallons of paint in order to accomplish his project. There is also a huge ?GOD IS LOVE? red sculpture standing at the peak of the mountain.

Some geological experts took a sample of the rock and announced that Knight's latex and oil paints were detrimental to the environment. However, the news naturally died after some time. There is an ongoing construction of huge balloon, which is a second generation of Knight's first hot air balloon. The interior of the second balloon holds a tree. Knight was also able to made an igloo out of 60 hay bales that someone anonymous donated to him. A General Sherman tree stump is sculpted in the area to give tribute to the popular stump located at Sequoia National Park.

Knight said that he would want to turn the place into a museum housing all of his art work.
