The Topanga State Park is a state park and recreation area in the community of Topanga, California. It is considered as the world?s largest wildland park within the boundaries of a major city (within the city limits of Los Angeles).
Being practically inside Los Angeles, you can expect that the Topanga State Park is frequented by city-dwellers who are looking to have a taste of nature. Here, you can go mountain biking, picnicking, wildlife viewing, hiking, and horseback riding. Group camping is also a very popular activity at the site. Folks can also view a number of geologic formations like earthquake faults, marine fossils, and volcanic intrusions just to name a few.
Named after a Shoshonean word, the Topanga State Park and its neighboring areas were once inhabited by the said Native American tribe prior to the establishment of the San Fernando Mission.
