Vulcan, AB. So named for the Roman God of Fire. Until the '70s Vulcan was the highest capacity for grain storage in Canada, with nine grain elevators. Now only one remains.

When Star Trek came out in the '60s, there was an entire race of beings who called their home planet Vulcan. The town of Vulcan in Alberta capitalized on this, going so far as to theme their tourism station after the series. A replica of the original Enterprise sits proudly not far from the station welcoming visitors in English, Klingon, and Vulcan.

Every year Vulcan hosts a Star Trek themed convention called VulCon (Spock Days/Galaxyfest). The entire town joins the festival with storefront displays, participation in the parade, and themed stock or in the case of food establishments, themed meals and drinks.
