It?s not everyday that you get to have a state park as the venue for a papal mass. The Cherry Creek State Park in Colorado holds this unique distinction, as Pope John Paul II held the 8th World Youth Day in this park on August 15, 1993.
Located in Arapahoe County, this 3,346-acre recreational park and natural reserve is a popular tourist destination. As a wildlife reserve, the park is home to several mammals, especially prairie species such as coyote, beaver, muskrat, raccoon, weasel, ground squirrel, and weasel.

The park is also notable for its modern accommodations and variety of recreational activities. The Cherry Creek Marina and Yacht Club calls this park its home and offers mooring, rentals, and other services. An 880-acre reservoir serves as center for powerboats, sailboats and kayaking activities. Other popular activities not found in other state parks include radio-controlled aircraft flying, bird watching, cross-country skiing, and shooting.
