The state of Colorado has a very long and colorful history, dating back to more than a dozen of millennia, from the time that the Native Americans still inhabit it. However, as the colonial period brought on changes into the area, one of the last remaining traces of the older times can be found at the Cripple Creek Historic District.

Found in the town of Cripple Creek, it is now a significant landmark for its gold mining era background, being the world’s largest gold field back in its glory days. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961, thanks to a couple of surviving structures that date back to the time when it was still a gold mining town.
