The Fort Yargo State Park is a state park and recreation area in Winder, Georgia. It is located between the cities of Athens and Atlanta.
The Fort Yargo State Park features the site where an early settlement was located. In fact, the site features the old Fort Yargo, created to protect settlers from hostile Creek Indians in 1792. Serving as proof to its history, visitors can find remnants of a log fort.
Aside from its historic significance, the Fort Yargo State Park is also noted for being the home of the Will-A-Way Recreation Area. This section of the park is specifically designed for people with developmental disabilities. The park also has a 260 acre public beach where folks could enjoy some boating and canoeing.
