The High Falls State Park is a state park, historic site, and recreation area in Jackson, Georgia. It preserves the old town known as High Falls.
Offering more than a thousand acres? worth of area, the High Falls State Park was originally a prosperous industrial town back in the early 1800s. It had several stores, blacksmith shop, shoe factory, cotton gin, and a grist mill. Sadly, in the 1880s, when it was bypassed by a major railroad, it turned into a ghost town.
Today, the site showcases the Towaliga River and the views of the largest waterfall in all of central Georgia. Visitors could enjoy camping, fishing, boating, picnicking, swimming, hiking, and golfing at the site. There are also some historic hikes as well as annual events hosted at the park.
