Established in 1988, the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory was first named as the Colorado Bird Observatory and dedicated to address bird conservation issues in the western region of the US, which include those in the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains as well as the Intermountain West. Besides conservation issues, the RMBO is also intent on education, research, monitoring, and providing outreach programs.

The observatory is strategically located at Barr Lake State Park, which is considered one of the best places to observe migrating birds that pass through the country?s Central Flyway.

For over two decades now, the observatory?s International Program has been operating in order to continue providing protection for the area?s endemic birds as they migrate to other non-US regions. At present, and with the help of other organizations, the observatory had been able to build a bird & habitat conservation in Mexico as well as other nations in Latin America.
