The Santa Fe Trail Festival is an event that is considered to be a major thoroughfare which separates Trinidad into two. The history of it starts with the pioneers from the 19th century that made a stop over at the said town. The place rendered a venue of supplies and rest to them. The festival then is held as tribute to this important route that has served to be memorable to the pioneers of the place. It has the usual activities of the historical reenactments, some live entertainment, numerous craft makers, and a lot more.

There is even a special section for the food along with some carnival and pony rides intended for the kids. The town of Trinidad was even voted as the 3rd best true western town by a prominent magazine in America. Attending this event would somehow make you feel that you are truly transported to the wild wild west. It would educate you well with how life was in the old western side of the town.
