Silverton has been a melting pot of different cultures during the late 1800s thanks to the discovery of its rich silver deposits. This caused for an establishment of a town in 1874, as the area has seen an increased amount of settlers, mostly miners and their loved ones who were from foreign European lands. This also became the birth to what people now know as the Silverton Historic District.

The tiny mountain town only has 500 plus residents. It has also been the very site of Shaun White?s Olympic training in 2010, as the town is rich in rain fall and far from prying eyes.

Aside from seeing the wonders of the Silverton Historic District, visitors can also enjoy the ride to the town as well. Summer trips are offered by the world renowned Durangp/Silverton Narrow Gauge train to the public that wants to see the small valley town.
