Standing proudly at the Hartford?s Capital Avenue and overlooking the Bushnell Memorial Park, the Connecticut State Capitol embodies the history and tradition of the state of Connecticut. Constructed from New England marble and granite, this Eastlake style building features a gold leaf dome and several ornate statues. These statues celebrate the values and achievements of famous people from the state of Connecticut, such the revered Reverend Thomas Hooker (1586 ? 1647) and Governor John Winthrop, Jr. (1605 ? 1676).

This majestic building houses the State Senate Chamber and the Hall of the State House of Representatives. It also contains the public offices of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and the Secretary of the State. This building was recognized as a National Historical Landmark in 1972. The building is open for public tours and visits.
