The home of the world renowned novelist Harriet Beecher Stowe for 23 years before she died, the Harriet Beecher Stowe House is a cottage style building in Hartford, Connecticut. It measures 5,000 square feet with 17 rooms, and is right next door to Mark Twain House.
Harriet Beecher Stowe became really well known, and was even thought to have started the Civil War, through the very controversial topic of her successful novel, Uncle Tom?s Cabin. The Harriet Beecher Stowe House has been the residence of the author upon her retirement years.
Today, the historical residence is a part of the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. The property serves as a museum where visitors can find collections of the organization, especially the Stowe family?s letters, documents, and memorabilia.
