The Hempsted Houses are two residential structures built in the 17th and 18th centuries by the Hempsteds. The first and older building is known as the 1678 Joshua Hempsted House, and the other is the 1759 Nathaniel Hempsted House.

The 1678 Joshua Hempsted House is best known for being one of New England?s oldest buildings. It is also well documented and restored, thanks to the original owner?s diary records which recorded around 50 years? worth of everyday activities and happenings.

The 1759 Nathaniel Hempsted House is also built by the Hempsteds and their household staff for Joshua?s grandson, Nathaniel and his growing family. Unlike the older house which was reminiscent of the Medieval Era, the newer one has more modern styles incorporated to it.

The Hempsted Houses is now a part of the National Register of Historic Places and the Connecticut Landmarks.
