The Sherwood Island State Park is a state park and recreation area in Westport, Connecticut. It is best noted for being Connecticut’s first an oldest state park.

The Sherwood Island State Park traces its roots back to the 1600s when the first migrants settled in the area. The state decided to turn the area into a shore park in 1914 after conducting a survey. It was designated as a state park soon after, although the wide use of the area didn’t happen up to until two decades later.

Today, the Sherwood Island State Park offers a great amount of recreational opportunities including fishing, swimming, picnicking, and even nature study. There are also a number of athletic fields at the site, allowing more fun to its visitors.
