The Sleeping Giant State Park is a state park and recreation area in Hamden, Connecticut. It features the Sleeping Giant, a popular feature along the skyline of south central Connecticut.
The Sleeping Giant got its name from a legend of the Quinnipiac tribe. According to the story, the giant stone spirit Hobbomock was sent to sleep by the good spirit Keitan as a way to stop the former from wreaking havoc in the area. The Sleeping Giant State Park takes advantage of the unique features of the locale. It features a wide range of recreational opportunities including hiking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, fishing, picnicking, bird watching, snowshoeing, and even rock climbing. Despite being a day park, group youth camping is also available but permits are required.
