The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts is home to seven galleries, 26 artists' studios, gift shop, high-tech auditorium, and a classroom at 35,000 square feet. Located at the rejuvenated Wilmington Riverfront, it is one of the nation's leading contemporary visual arts organizations and one of the largest contemporary art spaces in the region. The center aims to nurture new and emerging visual artists with nearly 30 exhibitions of regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists presented annually. All exhibits explore the topical issues in contemporary art and society. Various programs are also offered such as the Visual and Performing Arts Camps for students K-6, Pre-College Art Studio for high schoolers, and an Art and Community Program to bring young artists to work with groups in the community.

Founded in 1979, the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts was established by artists, and artists continue to play an important role in policy making. The center allocates 50% of its resources to community outreach with such programs as Contemporary Connections Visual Arts Residency Program, and Outside In. The Main Gallery features works by both emerging and nationally recognized artists. Thematic exhibits highlight national trends. The Elizabeth Avery Draper Showcase Gallery features contemporary crafts. The Member's Gallery shows the works of regional artists. And the Member's Gallery highlights regional artists who work with traditional floral, landscape and horticultural themes.

Aside from the wonderful exhibits, the center also offers a variety of programs for the family, including Artist and Critic-in-residence programs, gallery talks, and public forums. Artists are provided with a fantastic resource with workshops, exhibition opportunities, and inexpensive studio rental. Various seminars, symposia and lectures are available for adults, as well as an Arts and Breakfast lecture aimed for the business community. Visitors will enjoy the Alternatives Museum Shop which offers a myriad of souvenir items and various art crafts handmade by American craft artisans that work directly with the center.
