Local folks believed that the Fountain of Youth in Lewes was unconcealed by the county's pioneering Dutch settlers in 1631. Since then, Lewes has turned into a prosperous bay shore town with dozens of personal docks for high-powered boats possessed by Dutch-looking wealthy residents. The small summerhouse that distinguishes the Fountain of Youth was constructed by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce in 1937. At present, the Fountain is dried out and the extraordinary, leftward-spiral conch shell cup that was hanging by the gazebo, which is said to raise the Fountain's regenerative abilities, is already missing.
