In celebration of the New Year, Delaware holds its annual Hummers Parade. It?s basically a fun spoof of the fancy Mummers Parade that Philadelphia hosts regularly.

People say that the Hummers Parade started in the 1970s, when a group of friends decided to cheer their friend up by marching down Middletown while playing kazoos. The initial event was a real blast that they?ve decided to do it again the next year, and started inviting people to join.

The best thing that people say about the Hummers Parade is its spontaneity. Sure, it is planned as it does happen yearly, but no one organizes it. People just turn up at January 1st at 1 pm yearly, without ?good taste? and anything that has been prepared prior the morning of the event, and everyone starts marching down in different costumes and even floats.
