The Star Hill Museum is an African American heritage museum in Dover, Delaware. It is focused on telling the public what life was like to African Americans during the period when owning slaves was still a legal and common practice in the country.
Housed in the historic Star Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Star Hill Museum reflects the neighborhood which became alive when it started becoming a home to a great amount of freed slaves in the late 18th century. Many of the church members are believed to have associations and participation in the Underground Railroad. This is mostly where the name of the congregation came from, attributed to the symbol of a star used as a guide by escaping slaves.
