Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Christian Heurich House is considered as one of D.C.?s most beautiful hidden jewels. Also known as the Brewmaster?s Castle, the house was completed after over 2 years of construction in 1894. Now considered as the most intact home of late Victorian style in the country, the Christian Heuric House is also the 1st fireproof house in the city.

Heurich was a German immigrant who accumulated wealth from his brewery business. During his time, he was the 2nd largest landowner in the state. His business was the oldest brewery in the world and employed the largest private work force in Washington. He personally controlled his business until he died at age 102.
