Built in 1808, the Cleveland Abbe House was home to the father of the United States Weather Bureau. It is also known as the Timothy Caldwell House as well as Monroe-Adams-Abbe House. This home has witness history in many folds as it has been home as well to James Monroe back when he was Secretary of State and War under President James Madison.

When Cleveland Abbe moved to Washington DC to work as an Assistant Chief to the Signal Officer he purchased this house. He was living in this house when he finally established as well as directed the United States Weather Bureau. When Abbe died in 1916, the property was sold to the Arts Club of Washington. The house is still being used to this day by the same organization.
