Big John is a well known landmark and roadside attraction in Cape Coral, Florida. It is basically just a statue, but locals, visitors, and passers-by tend to have cultivated a fondness for him.

Originally a marketing ploy by a grocery store of the same name, Big John was actually originally from Illinois. It was moved to Cape Coral in 1969. It was transported in two pieces, but has been damaged during the trip when the height of one overpass was misjudged.

After being installed in front of the grocery store, Big John became a citizen of Cape Coral. It originally held two plastic bags, however, when the store closed in the late 1980s, the bags were removed. He now looks like he?s trying to hug someone or dancing with an invisible partner.
