The Cracker Country is a living history museum in Tampa, Florida. It tells of the rural history of the state, deriving from the Florida Crackers roots. The term “Crackers” are derived from the 19th century pioneers who settled and developed the wild territory of Florida.
The Cracker Country is a recreated pioneer village complex in the Florida State Fairgrounds. It is composed of thirteen original buildings that were built from 1870 to 1912 from all over the state. The structures were restored and refurbished for display. They are also outfitted and furnished with period antiques.
At the Cracker Country, you can step back in time and see the early days of the state of Florida. There are also some costumed interpreters demonstrating various traditional crafts.
