The Everglades National Park is considered to be the second biggest next to Yellowstone and the largest wilderness in the US. The park measures about 1.5 million acres of marsh land and swamps along with a very sustainable ecosystem. The first people who inhabited the place were the Calusa Indians who lived through fishing. During the 1830s, the Seminole Indians hid in this place too so as not to be captured by the army involved in the Seminole Wars.

The Everglades were first called by the Indians as ?Pa-hay-okee? which means water that is filled with grass. During the more modern days, an environmentalist by the name of Marjory Stone Douglas instead called it as ?River of Grass?. The Everglades Park is also considered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
