The Guavaween is an annual Halloween celebration in Tampa, Florida. It is one of the largest festivals in the historic neighborhood of Ybor City.
The Guavaween is actually a Latin-flavored Halloween event. It was started officially more than 20 years ago. It was kind of a spin-off of the Halloween Parties thrown by local artists in the 1970s, which proved to be big hits that it was decided to take the celebration out in the streets.
The Guavaween is named after the city?s nickname that was given by Steve Otto, ?the Big Guava?. The event involves costume contests, scavenger hunts, food, amusement rides, trick or treating, and parades. The Mama Guava Stumble Parade is quite an attraction in itself as well, it being the most popular event in the festivity.
