The John Gorrie State Museum is a biographical museum in Apalachicola, Florida. The site is dedicated to one of its 1800s immigrant, John Gorrie, who has achieved a great deal through his stay in the area.

John Gorrie was a physician who moved to Apalachicola in 1833. He took up different public positions like postmaster, mayor, council member, city treasurer, and bank director. He was also the founder of Trinity Church. However, despite all of these tasks, he still continued to practice his medical profession. Through this job, he came across a number of yellow fever patients who he wanted to help further, so he thought of a way of cooling their rooms. This paved the way for him to become the pioneer of refrigeration and air conditioning, allowing him to attain the first patent for such technology in the US.
