The Koreshan State Historic Site is an open air museum and state park in Estero, Florida. It has a very interesting history, tracing its roots back to the Koreshan belief.
Established in 1894 by Cyrus Reed Teed, the Koreshan State Historic Site was originally a religious colony known as the Koreshan Unity. Under the leadership of Teed, the group believed that the ?entire universe existed within a giant but hollow sphere. The colony lasted until 1961, when the last four members decided to deed the land to the state.
The Koreshan State Historic Site now not only tells of the past of the area, but also presents visitors with several recreational activities to enjoy. This includes wildlife viewing, camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and picnicking.
