Once an isolated island rumored to be used by lovers as an intimate getaway, Lovers Key is now part of a four island park now known as Lovers Key State Park.
The park is home to a variety of marine species including the West Indian Manatee and Bottlenose Dolphins. Bird watchers will also enjoy the presence of many bird species in the area including the bald eagle, ospreys, roseate spoonbills, snowy egrets, American kestrel among many others.
Lovers Key itself features a two and a half mile stretch of beach that is available for public use. The south beach features a gazebo, restroom, and picnic areas. The middle portion of the beach is left undeveloped to enhance its natural beauty.
