The Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park was one of the state of Florida?s first state parks. It was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930?s.

Located in the area known as the central ridge of Florida, the Mike Roesss Gold Head Branch State Park features deep valleys and ravines that have springs which are the source of the Gold Head Marshes, also inside the park. This variety in land conditions and formations create an interesting mix in wildlife and native vegetation in the area.

The major trail in the park, which is over three miles in length, is part of the Florida National Scenic Trail which bisects the park. Other amenities include fully equipped cabins, some of which were built by the CCC.
