Built originally in the 12th century as a Spanish monastery in Segovia, Spain, the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux can now be found in North Miami Beach, Florida. Today, it is one of the oldest buildings in the Western Hemisphere.
It was brought to the US by William Randolph Hearst in 1925, and was initially planned to be put in Southern California. However, difficulties arose upon the arrival of the shipment, so Hearst lost the drive in his original plan. In 1952, Raymond Moss and William Edgemon bought the monastery and reassembled it to its current site in Miami.
Today, the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux serves as a church and a tourist attraction.
