The Old Dillard Museum is a black heritage museum in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It tells of the history of the area?s African American population and chronicles the community?s contributions and role in the growth of the city and the nation.
The Old Dillard Museum is housed in the campus of the Old Dillard High School. The school was also known as the Colored School or Walker Elementary, being the city?s first school for black children. It became the most suitable location for the museum a short while after the desegregation.
The Old Dillard Museum opened its doors in April 27, 1995. Since then it has continuously served as an education center under the Broward Public School System that is dedicated in educating the public about the area?s black heritage.
