The Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge is a 3 acre preservation area in Sebastian, Florida, dedicated to keep the Pelican Island in a healthy condition, to continuously provide a home to different birds and wildlife.

The first ever national wildlife refuge in the United States, being formed in 1903 through President Theodore Roosevelt?s executive order, the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge is a National Historic Landmark for various reasons. The very cause of its declaration as such is the fact that it is a precursor of efforts in preserving wildlife areas all across the country, but other than that, it has also been a well-cared for site, bringing locals and concerned parties together whenever threats of destroying the natural habitat are looming.

Today, visits to the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge are only through chartered tours or boat rides. Visitors are also not allowed to disembark from their water vessels, so they won?t disturb the creatures on the site.
