The San Pedro Underwater Archaeological Preserve State Park is a state park and nature preserve in Islamorada, Florida. It features the wreck of the San Pedro, a 287-ton Dutch-built ship that sank in 1733 from a hurricane.
Originally a part of the fleet of New Spain, the San Pedro has triggered several salvaging efforts in the past. What remains today is a large pile of ballast stone.
Visitors of the San Pedro Underwater Archaeological Preserve State Park can view the site through snorkeling and diving. Being an underwater attraction, the park enhanced the site by adding seven replica cannons, an information plaque, and an anchor.
Designated as an Underwater Archaeological Preserve, the San Pedro Underwater Archaeological Preserve State Park is truly a unique place to visit.
