The Washington County Historical Museum is a local history and heritage museum located in Chipley, Florida. There are a lot of historical events that occurred in Washington County and this museum intends to educate its visitors on the circumstances that lead to each one and how they happened.

Native Americans have lived in Washington County for thousands of years and some of their recorded history predates the arrival of the Spanish for 300 years. The Spanish mission at San Carlos is within the borders of Washington County. Even British traders and American pioneers have seen the benefits of starting their settlements in this fertile region. Even during the civil war, the county was an important site and a small but tragic battle occurred on the site.
