Zoo Miami is a zoological park in Miami, Florida. It is best noted as the largest and oldest venue of its sort in the state.

Also known as the Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens and formerly the Miami MetroZoo, the Zoo Miami is actually the only tropical zoo in the United States. It traces its history back to 1948, when 3 monkeys, 2 black bears, and a goat was purchased from a small road show that was stranded in the city. It formed the Crandon Park Zoo, and was later added a couple more animals like lions, elephants, and a rhinoceros which was from a circus that went out of business. By 1967, the zoo has already more than 1200 animals and is one of the top 25 zoos in the nation. Sadly, in 1965, 250 animals were killed by Hurricane Betsy.

The disaster brought in the prospect of creating a new zoo, which is now the Zoo Miami.
