Probably June, July, or August in Katmai national park.

Grizzly Bear Viewing

We went viewing out of Kodiak back in 1996 when the float planes shared the take off and landing space with the ferry and ship traffic taking off under the bridge to the small boat harbor. We flew out to a fish census station and the end of the silver run in August. Many up close and personal encounters, great pictures

I don't think that I would want to get to "up close and personal" with a Grizzly bear.

Watch out for Sarah palin as she will personally wrestle anything she deems a grizzly bear, that includes a bearded man.

I have a beard and I wouldn't mind wrestling with Sarah.

Spring or summer are best months. National parks ie Denali are great locations or places near water bodies.

You're almost guaranteed to see a grizzly in Denali, but usually from a tour bus. Definitely not the same as seeing one in "the wild". I wouldn't say anything in Denali Nat'l Park within earshot of the tour road as 'the wild', and you need special permission to go hiking through the park for more than a day.

Grizzlies are likely best found in the southern foothill areas.
