If you like to hike or be outdoors, then this is the place for you

But, if you are from California or the like, please leave your "big city thinking" elsewhere. Its ruining our state

Probably getting off topic but people up here are trying to make ends meet just like everyone else, from little cities, big cities, California, Texas, wherever. I think unfortunately some folks come up thinking it is some kind of wonderland of jobs and free money, or just escape society and those are the ones that aren't always pleasant to go fishing with.

Yeah, well the grass is always greener sort of thing.

To the same effect, I've seen tons of people come to Oahu seeking this wonderland of beauty, just to find out that a decent house is easily upwards of 500k and the price of living is higher than anywhere in the continental US. Needless to say, the jobless rate is one of the highest in the US.

It's all in your head!

I am not from Alaska but I have visited and just seeing the wild life was quite an experience. The mountains are massive, so massive that you can literally get lost in them.
The aqua-marine color of the Kenai River is something to see too. I was there in June. Each day there was a light mist (ever so slight) and this kept the mosquitos down. I didn't get bitten once nor was I bothered by them. I saw countless glaciers and peered into the deep dark blue color of the frozen ice. Had a beer at Chilcoot Charlies and watched small planes take off and land on the small lake in Anchorage. Had breakfast across the street from this waterport. Took pictures of many Moose and Grizzly Bears and lived to tell about it. Actually I got chased by a Moose, much to the delight of my friends who safely watched from a cabin deck. Ha ha. Took some time and panned for gold...no winner. Alaska is the "Last Frontier". This alone is reason enough to visit. If I could tolerate the winters I'd live there year round and melt into the scenery like Grizzly Adams. I wanna be a mountain man. Loved the endless daylight in summer. I could go on and on. You should visit Alaska because it is there.

Alaska not worth visiting!

There is nothing to see or do up here, do yourself a favor and stay away! (Alaskan since 1959)

I can't give you a reason, but if you came up here you would see why so many people love this state

How about the best fishing in the world, Where else can you walk 50yards from you back door, drop a line in the Kenai River and hook giant hard core fighting salmon?

And the trip up the Alaska highway is one of the most beautiful drives in the world, wild life galore, Waterfalls along the road, pure clean air, Great fresh sea food, good people etc etc.

You must visit the Kenai Peninsula, fish the Kenai and take a drive down to Homer and head out to the homer spit to do some Halibut fishing or do some whale watching tours, you can also catch a fairy from Homer to Kodiak Island and check out the Kodiak Brown bears.

I suggest taking your time on the drive, stop often and enjoy the state.
