Check out ADVrider.com. There's an entire subforum for Alaska.

I am going in July 2012, it will be my second time by motorbike, fourth time to Alaska.
Are you going this summer?
All i can say is fuel range is vital, if you cannot go about 400 kms minimum, you need to carry gas.
Witha little side exploring, and service stations that can be 350 kms apart, or more, gas is critical.
Carry spare tubes, or if tubeless tires, extra plugs and flat repair stuff, and a small compressor, the roads eat tires.
I got 3 flats in 14 days on my nearly new tires.
At home i get a flat maybe every 10 years at most.
Mosquitos and flies can bebrutal, so carry bug spray, and if tenting, be sure its mosquito proof.
