Abuquerque Day Trip

Want to see more than just the city? Here's a nifty day trip: The Turquoise Trail, going north from ABQ the back way to Santa Fe, through the villages of Cerrillos and Madrid. The scenery is grand, there are no crowds (well, maybe on busy weekends in Madrid--made famous by the movie "Wild Hogs"), and the shops offer unique items. It's called "Turquoise Trail" because it runs near mines that the natives made many hundreds of years ago.

Another one: 550 out of Bernalillo, north on 4 at San Ysidro through Jemez Springs and Los Alamos to Santa Fe, then back to ABQ. Along the way: possible "extra" side trip through Gilman tunnels, Jemez monument, eat/drink in Jemez Springs, Valle Grande, Bandelier.
