There's TexMex, CalMex, New Jersey Mex (JK!), and there's the real thing: New Mexican Cuisine, the really good way to prepare food with cheese, chili, tortillas and meat. If you haven't had New Mexican food, go to Sadies, you'll be glad you did. (Word to the cautious: "hot" means you'll lose it all if you aren't experienced, go "medium" at the most for the first time.

El Patio near UNM would be my choice.

I'll second Sadie's. We also like the Little Anita's in Old Town and they have a little-known luncheonette at their offices by the airport.

La Salita on Eubank (just north of I-40) is pretty good as well.

El Pinto on fourth street in the north valley is pretty good.
