YUMA, Ariz. - At least five people were killed and one was wounded Thursday in a series of shootings in southwest Arizona that forced officials to lock down a courthouse and area schools.

The shootings happened Thursday morning in Yuma County.

Yuma police Sgt. Clint Norred tells the Yuma Sun that the shootings were connected and are under investigation. It's unclear whether there's been an arrest or what the motive may have been.

Norred says four of the fatal shootings occurred in the county and one happened within Yuma city limits.

Police haven't confirmed the identity of the victims. However the Sun is reporting that Yuma attorney Jerrold Shelley died during the shooting, according to CBS affiliate KOLD.

Norred also wouldn't confirm if the suspect was alive or dead, the newspaper reports. CBS affiliate KSWT reports that the suspect is a white, elderly male.

One of the victims shot was transported to the Phoenix Hospital in critical condition, according to KSWT.

Norred says police originally responded to a shooting call around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

I usually worry more about grandma letting go with some antique she fires with her eyes closed.

What we need is MORE GUNS and less eyecare for the elderly.
