I live in California and visited Arkansas. I was extremely impressed with the state. Friends had moved there from CA and just love it there. The lakes are very clear. The Ozark Mtns. are pine forested and beautiful. The state does not charge you to launch a boat any where but in CA you pay for every little thing. The highways are clean (no litter). People are very friendly and polite. It was just a pleasure being there. If I move from CA you can bet Arkansas will be my top consideration. Taxes are low and housing is good. I want a large yard and a workshop. In Arkansas I can have it and live like a king.

Motorcycling at it's finest

Come to arkansas for it's wonderful twisty and windy roads perfect for motorcycling. Branson in Missouri is not too far away from Northwest arkansas if you're just planning to pass through too.

The Clinton Presidential Library is nice. I also recommend checking out the River Market district while visiting the library.

Fly fishing

As previously mentioned-World Record Brown Trout 40+ pounds.
Even if you don't fish for trout just visit the rivers. Trout don't live in ugly water.

If by northwest arkansas you mean fort smith you are right.
River Valley Ale Raisers brew great beer.
My Russian Imperial Stout and Belgian Trippel were medal winners at the state fair competition and the club won 14 medals.

Brew Water

Ozark Mountain Spring water is great, we keep it on hand for our guests
here at our B&B. Fort Smith's water supply is from upper Frog Bayou and is pretty well protected from the chicken industry. Our water in Fort Smith was voted the best munincipal water in Arkansas and feed's the yeast well.
Keep Brewing.

I heartily recommend a hike on Mount Magazine. Also, depending on when you are planning on passing through, there are plenty of places to hunt morel mushrooms.
