Here's a J.A.HENCKELS.......a knife made in Germany, which looks similiar to yours,
and you can be sure it will sharpen to the "dangerous" stage....check what these
cost to replace "now-a-days"....

I've been up since 3 AM. I have no idea why, but I have a feeling I will be exhausted by the end of the day!

I've been falling asleep in my "easy chair" around 9 p.m. and usually awaken around 0500 myself.......you may get a little sleepy around 3 p.m., but, if you can make it through that period you'll feel OK the rest of the evening.....

I cringe that when I hear you only spend five dollars.

I spend money on knives, I've used poor quality and it's the worst.

You only need three or maybe four knives.......a paring knife, a bread knife and a chef's knife and maybe a boning knife or slicing knife of some type...these will do most jobs you'll run across.....the ones I've purchased are knives folks have chosen to get rid of for some reason.....I've guessed that maybe because some relative has passed away and they didn't want to keep them.........it's just fun watching for the "good ones" to turn up......
I made the above statement then found this......seems they concur.........

A "very good" knife, the sharper it is, the safer it is, is probably the
best investment you can make if you do any cooking, etc.........
