What book is this???

This might seem crazy but..... When I was much younger I remember reading a book that was about a guy going on a hunting trip of some sort with a guide (I think?)... The guide basically dumps him off in some desert type mountainous region and HE becomes the hunted by the so called "guide". The book is basically about him trying not to get shot, starve, or die of thirst and the things he goes through. I can't remember the name of the book for the life of me. The word "...magnum.." comes to mind as part of the name.
The only specifics I remember is that at some point the guy was almost dying of thirst, his tongue was swollen (it was pretty descriptive) from the heat and lack of moisture. He got some water somehow but it was painful to drink.....etc...
I would love it if someone had an idea what it was!! I remember really liking the book!

WOW.. Nevermind. I found it! Someone on YahooAnswers asked almost the same question and someone had answered him!

(Notice the word magnum on the cover in the description)

Yeah, I think I was in 8th grade or something when I read it. I just remember really liking the book. I will be trying to find a copy! (I hope it is as good as I remember...)

I do think that the CJ and the rifle together drew me to the book...

book stumpers

Loganberry Books in Cleveland runs a book stumper site. I've used it for years. It's mainly for children's books but sometimes people asked for help identifying adult novels.
Stump the Bookseller
